Plant Pathology is the study of plant diseases. Included in this study are the biological agents and environmental conditions that cause disease; the mechanisms by which disease occurs, and methods of preventing or controlling the spread of disease.

Plant diseases cause billions of dollars' worth of damage to crops each year. Plant diseases have also influenced the course of human history on several cases, notably the late blight disease of potato and coffee rust.
