Research Interests

Most of my research projects deal with fisheries ecology and aquaculture in the Midwest. I currently have two ongoing projects that are examining the practice of fish culture and physiological behavior of Wisconsin fishes. The first project is investigating biological methods for reducing or eliminating grub (trematode) infections in fish ponds.  This involves stocking northern fantail crayfish and a competitive trematode into the ponds to disrupt the grub lifecycle.  The second project involves fish health and is looking at the mechanism of "whitetail" syndrome in percid fishes, producing online fish health educational modules for fish culturists, and working with aquaculture extension specialists in fish farm biosecurity. I also continue work with the feeding ecology of larval yellow perch (fry) during the first 10 weeks of life in fish culture ponds and pond fertilization to improve the production of farm-raised fish.
